A Rant

I have been known to rant a little about the fact that I think that many people will not allow themselves to become uncomfortable for the sake of someone else. Sorry in advance. I want you to think about the last time that you needed something, anything from someone else. Was it stressful? Even painful?  Think about the last time teachers were needed at church. Was the sign up overflowing with volunteers or was there a last minute plea for help? Think about the last time you tried to merge in Nashville traffic.

No one likes to be inconvenienced. Sometimes what another person needs interferes with what we have going on. And we don’t really want to help but we know it is the right thing. And sometimes we want to help out but what is going on in our life is tough and we are worried about ourselves.  So sometimes we just choose to make ourselves uncomfortable for a short time to help someone out. Case in point: my best friend  took a weeks vacation to watch my children for 7 days straight while I was in Africa. Do you think she would have rather been at the beach? Or even getting her wisdom teeth removed? Yeah, probably. But because she sacrificed time, money, rest, sanity and love for my family. I was able to serve another purpose there and know that my children were safe, happy and loved. I haven’t even mentioned all the other people that spent hours helping out, driving kids to church camp, cooking meals.. Because of the sacrifices of all these people, my life will forever be changed.

It makes me think of all the times I could have helped but didn’t.

Timing is never good. (why is it that kids only run high fevers in the middle of the night? or get sick when you are on another continent?). You can’t say, oh when the kids get a little older…when I have a little more time, money etc…

It’s time to get uncomfortable for a moment for the comfort of others.
