Sleepwalker

I am sitting at a sleep study clinic, waiting for the technician to come “hook up” my eight year old NumberTwo. This should be an interesting night.
NumberTwo has required more sleep than the average child since infancy. She took two naps a day after a full night of sleep until she was almost three. She was still taking a three hour nap almost every day until we put her in school. I thought that was normal for her. Since she has started school she can barely keep her eyes open when she gets home.
One other thing I want to mention. Adriana always had leg pains at night. We talked to different doctors, even a neurologist but they chalked them up to growing pains. Deep down I felt is was something more. She also started sleepwalking around the age of five.
We finally pressed our pediatrician to send us to another neurologist due to the fact that she is barely making it through the day. She is constantly saying she is tired and that she wants to take a nap ( and most parents would give their left arm, I know!!). He told us that she has restless leg syndrome and possibly sleep apnea. He also said that children that have restless leg syndrome are also frequently iron deficient. Appearently there is some kind of connection, because sure enough she tested as being low on iron. ( After blowing out her vein digging around in her arm)
She was a trooper about it though, didn’t even make a peep.
So here we are. And I wish I had eaten dinner..
